National Farmers Union on Farm Bill Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Many believe a Farm Bill will get done … at some point … but the odds of getting it done in an election year are slim.National Farmers Union president, Rob Larew says that’s why it is so important for farmers to get in front of their elected officials during this August recess and help them understand why a new Farm Bill is so important …
LAREW … “Certainly, we needed to see an extension before that expires. But, for the good of everyone, we need that certainty of having a farm bill and hopefully the right farm bill done by the end of the year.”
Despite all of the deep partisan divides in Washington D.C., Larew says there is still reason for hope …
LAREW … “For farm organizations and ag groups in general, we still understand the need for bipartisanship, the need for working together and finding common ground.”
And that common ground, Larew says is there, but we’ve got to find it …
LAREW … “Even as we're looking at some of those differences in a farm bill, I think a lot of us see a real possibility of finding compromise, whether we're talking about the House committee passed bill versus the ideas that Chairman Stabenow in the Senate is pushing forward. Part of the frustration, quite frankly, is we see a game plan for getting something through there. If there's a will by the members of Congress to get it done, I think we still can.”
Again, that’s NFU President Rob Larew.
