National Farmers Union on Farm Bill Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Farm bill prospects in 2024 are dim, at best.Rob Larew, president of the National Farmers Union, says there will be a farm bill at some point, but the question … when? …
LAREW … “It's hard to find another way to keep saying I have no idea at that point, really, I'm only half joking. I mean, the fact is that we already knew when we had to roll into this year when things didn't get done on time last year, that this election year was going to be tough in the best of times.
And trying to get this done during an election year, Larew says is pushing it …
LAREW … “I wouldn't even call this the best of times, and we know already that that's the big dilemma right now. So, we are pushing, continuing to push, to make sure that we get a farm bill done, hopefully at the end of the year.”
Larew says that’s why it is so important for producers to get out and talk face-to-face with their elected officials during this August recess …
LAREW … “That's where the message and the push has to be right now. So part of the messaging, really, in hearing from growers and ranchers, is they need to let their leaders in the House and the Senate, this August, make them understand why they need that certainty.”
Tune in tomorrow to hear more from National Farmers Union president Rob Larew on why a new Farm Bill is so important … even when competing with election year politics.
