Cotton Council Praises Draft Farm Bill
With your Southeast Regional Ag News, I am Haylie Shipp. This is the Ag Information Network.Another radio program and another farm bill update. You sick of me talking about it yet? But there is good news in that we are now getting some forward momentum. Robbie Minnich, Vice President of Washington Operations for the National Cotton Council
“It’s been a long time coming, but the House Agriculture Committee released its draft farm bill. It’s got a lot of great things for the cotton industry and all of agriculture in it.”
Not just focused on growers, Minnich says it also has important provisions for the textile industry and exports…
“Exports are vitally important to our industry and it doubles the Market Access Program and the Foreign Market Development Program which Cotton Council International utilizes to fund market development around the world. So you kind of take all of those provisions together and it really hits on a lot of the industry priorities and is a big win for the industry, but at the same time it’s the first step and not the final one in a longer farm bill process.”
Again Robbie Minnich, Vice President of Washington Operations for the National Cotton Council. He says they are expressing support and urging a bipartisan vote, All of this as we keep the election year reality top of mind.
