From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. USDA wants to hear from as many specialty crop farmers as possible and is asking the community to offer feedback by March 8 at live events and online.

USDA Undersecretary Jenny Lester Moffitt says their looking for new ways to support producers and are looking to the growing community for ways to better industry production and processing practices …

MOFFITT … “We’ve pulled together a resource directory so the farmers can have one place that they can go to learn about the resources USDA has for specialty crop producers, as well as, we’re really interested in hearing from producers how the programs that we currently have can continue to support specialty crop production in the future.”

Moffitt says in an effort to get as much feedback as possible, they’ve tried to make responding as simple and easy as possible …

MOFFITT … “So, this is all online. The resource directory is there as well as a portal to be able to provide input. We’re gathering input through March 8th so we really hope to hear from everyone who has suggestions and ideas for USDA. But we also hope that folks will be able to learn about new resources, new opportunities so that farmers and producers of all sizes will know about the work that we’re doing.”

Moffitt believes this is something that could help everyone and says the USDA would appreciate hearing from as many specialty crop growers as possible by the March 8 deadline.
