DAMN Act Pt 1

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. It’s called the Defending Against Manipulative Negotiators, or DAMN, Act and it’s intended to stop the use of federal funds from being used to breach or alter any or all of the Lower Snake River dams.

U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse introduced the legislation following what amounts to “closed-door” meetings about the dams and dam breaching …

NEWHOUSE … “Our biggest complaint with this is many of the important stakeholders whose voices should’ve been at the table were not invited, were not part of the conversation. And so, these talks were absolutely with the understanding and the beginning foundation of which was directed to the outcome of breaching the four lower Snake dams.”

Newhouse feels that if the meetings included more voices, any dam breaching decisions made would reflect that …

NEWHOUSE … “So, this legislation that we introduced last week was an effort to try to slow that down, to stop the efforts of the Biden Administration, to ask for a more inclusive conversation so everybody that is impacted by those kinds of decisions are able to voice their concerns and their opinions.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on the DAMN Act and why dam breaching advocates could use a little help exploring options for protecting our salmon populations.
