Washington Farm Bureau Policy Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. If you’re in agriculture or are just a fan of agriculture, theWashington State Farm Bureau is looking out for you.
Farm Bureau policy chair, Anne Lawrence says they speak for
the needs of agriculture in our state year-round …
LAWRENCE … “The way in which Washington Farm Bureau’s policy is developed is just about as member focused as it gets. Voting delegates, annually, are elected from each county farm bureau to gather at the Farm Bureau’s annual meeting. And at these annual November meetings policy is determined for the following year.”
And getting the farmers viewpoint, Lawrence says is what it’s all about …
LAWRENCE … “Policies that have come up through that process at the annual meeting, are brought before the delegate body and those delegates are elected from each county Farm Bureau, they represent all the counties, and then they pass that through. So, basically, the farmers involvement in that process is absolutely essential in advocating for what the farmers need.”
Which, Lawrence says, comes straight from the horse’s mouth …
LAWRENCE … “And we meet their needs by letting them tell us what they need. So, our advocacy efforts come directly from the policy that our members determine, and our governmental affairs work is based on those policies.”
Listen tomorrow for more on the shaping of Washington Farm Bureau policy and how you can help.
