The summer meeting for the American Cotton Producers was held earlier this month. Nathan Reed, chairman of the American Cotton Producers of the National Cotton Council…

“We recently had a meeting in New Orleans. It was a great meeting.”

Key items included a panel of high-level staff from Arkansas Senator Boozman and Congressman Scott of Georgia. Both are heavily involved with their respective ag committees…

“On the agenda, this would be the year to pass a farm bill. So whether we get one passed or get an extension, I guess we’ll find out pretty soon. But that’s one of the main things going on right now in farm policy is whether we will get a farm bill or not.”

Just a tiny what if. Looking towards the more proactive/controllable part of things, Reed spoke favorably of the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, an industry sustainability program…

“If you’re not signed up for it, I encourage you to please sign up for it. There’s a September 1 deadline to sign up for this crop year. It’s a good program and please be members of the U.S. Cotton Trust program.”

Again Nathan Reed, chairman of the American Cotton Producers of the National Cotton Council.
