SCOTUS WOTUS Decision Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. A huge sigh of relief could be heard last Thursday coming from the Ag community after the Supreme Court’s decision in the Sackett vs EPA, regarding the Waters of the U.S. rule.U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says he was a bit surprised by the unanimous decision …
NEWHOUSE … “Absolutely! We were hopeful to get a positive ruling. You know, 5-4 we would’ve been okay with, but I think a unanimous decision on the part of the Court, you know and that means there were no dissenting opinions, that should lay to rest this issue once and for all.”
Newhouse says landowners deserve this …
NEWHOUSE … “And this has been literally decades that we have been living under the uncertainty of which are the right rules to follow. So, there again, getting back to that word, this gives landowners the “certainty” that they need to move forward.”
For those who say the ruling limits the EPA’s authority to police water pollution …
NEWHOUSE … “It does not inhibit any agency’s ability to protect clean water. It just gives, I think, a sensible, logical direction to people so that they can fully utilize their property as they should be able to.”
Newhouse says this landmark decision is a clear demonstration of our nation’s commitment to upholding the principles of an individual’s property rights.
