Alltech recently acquired a majority share of Agolin, which offers plant-based livestock nutrition solutions. Alltech CEO Dr. Mark Lyons says this alliance allows farmers to reach sustainability goals while also supporting cattle herd performance and profitability.

Lyons… “People are buying this product because of performance. They're buying it because of improvements in fertility. But the reason that a lot of us know it is because of the environmental impact. And so, when I think about a lot of the technologies that Alltech has worked with over our 43 years, those three words fertility, performance, environment, really stand out. So, at the same time, the mode of action of the technology is different than ours, although the ethos is the same”

Agolin’s essential oil blends are scientifically proven to optimize feed intake and performance, including improved milk and meat production.

Lyons… “When you think about so much of what's happening in the environmental space, I think a lot of investments going into some of these businesses, but people are forgetting where the rubber really hits the road, which is the producer. If we're not getting a benefit for the producer, no matter what the environmental claims are, I think we're missing something. And people have been buying this product because it's improving their on farm profitability. We've also seen a lot of other information, we saw from the UC Davis numbers not just the methane reduction, but they also cited an ammonia reduction. And so that's something that's pretty exciting where you actually see that there may be a local environmental benefit, and I think that's something that just reducing overall odor on the on the farm is something that's pretty intriguing.”

Agolin products are available now and Lyons said new opportunities on the horizon. Learn more online at www.alltech.com/agolin.
