Bird Gard Pt 2

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. When bird pests get hungry, it can be bad news for your crops. With that in mind, Bird Gard has discovered a great way to keep those pests out of certain areas.

Bird Gard President and CEO, Kyle Cummings says their electronic repellent device plays sounds of bird distress calls to keep the birds away …

CUMMINGS … “So, it could be two seconds on of one species, and maybe off for eight seconds, come back 14 seconds of another species, off for nine seconds, here or there kind of thing, but really introducing a variety of species. Those that are causing the issue, one, but then also the predator calls which, of course, they react to that as well, too.”

And, Cummings says it can also attract predators …

CUMMINGS … “It can. Yeah, absolutely. We’ve seen it happen many times. You play the right predator sounds for those type of predators that are within that area. They can be attracted not only to the predator sounds themselves, but also to the distress signals of those birds that they might target.”

The system, Cummings says can be used on a variety of crops …

CUMMINGS … “So, a lot of crops, whether it be blueberries, apples, cherries, row crops, pistachios, almonds and such. A lot of application that way. But we sell throughout the U.S., up into Canada and have many, many international distributors where we do a lot of significant business as well.”
