Speak Up for Agriculture Pt 2

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. People who’ve never worked on a farm or those from outside the ag community should have a better idea of what actually goes into producing the food we all need to survive.

Director of the Washington Policy Center’s Initiative on Agriculture, Pam Lewison says they should know about all of the good, even great things farmers do …

LEWISON … “You know, I think it is largely a communication thing. I think we need to be better about telling people, you know, that we do participate in things that mitigate climate change.”

On a daily basis, Lewison says we’re out there being more sustainable than most would ever imagine …

LEWISON … “And then being able to communicate that to someone else who sort of presses in on you about how you farm and what you’re doing and what are you doing to help the environment. And, every farmer is doing something that is helping the environment.”

And, Lewison says the more things change …

LEWISON … “Having those sorts of public-private partnerships and having the ingenuity of agriculture and technology collide is where we can truly start to see real long-term real-life improvement in how we treat agriculture and climate change.”

Lewison says agriculture should be given more credit than it is as farmers and researchers work on more ways to contribute positively to climate change.
