More and more platforms are popping up to pay farmers to sequester carbon and to perform other ecosystem services. Truterra is the sustainability division of Land O’Lakes. President Tom Ryan says they are focused on helping farmers leverage technology to capture some of these incentives.

Ryan… “You know, there's a lot of data capture. There's a lot of information that is required to accurately participate in a lot of these programs. And so really that's back to leveraging some of these technological solutions that exist or creating new ones to make that process easier. Can we capture more information with remote sensing or this solving this connection problem that I talked about earlier around: I've got that data in my monitor, I've got this data in this monitor. How do we bring on those data sources together in a seamless way that doesn't require as much manual intervention, which makes it easier for a grower to participate. Or even to see if they qualify. So I think those vague rocks will be what we focus on the most over the next 12 months as we move and scale the platform across the considerable number of new acres.”

Ryan’s other two priorities included bringing broader opportunities to growers and building the talent and capabilities surrounding conservation agronomy.
