Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today we are answering questions from the email. Recently a listener wrote, "I am no wine collector but my nephew is graduating from law school and he likes wine. I want to give him a selection of wines commemorating this occasion. How should I go about this?"
It is always tricky buying wine for a collector. I think if you do a little creative chatting with your nephew, a sort of fishing expedition if you know what I mean, you can find out who makes his favorite wines. You will then have enough information to go to a reputable wine merchant and asked for recommendations. Also, see what they have available to order that might not be in the store at the time. Depending on how much money you want to spend, you might think of getting a vertical of one of his favorite wines, or a large format bottle like a magnum. Those big bottles always say special and they will age longer than a regular size bottle. Also, think about getting a wine from the same vintage year from several of his favorite wineries. Most of all, if you can include some printed information about the wine and how long the winery or the critics think it will last that will no doubt impress your nephew. That is a very thoughtful gift. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
