From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. Passing the Farm Workforce Modernization Act could help secure the food supply and lower costs for American families.

U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says it’s past time the Senate Acts on this legislation and provide some certainty for our producers and the American families who are paying the price …

NEWHOUSE … “The good thing is, the work in the Senate continues and now that the Capitol campus is more open to the public than before, we’re having a lot of people coming to Washington D.C. and expressing their support.”

So that, Newhouse says, is a good thing …

NEWHOUSE … “In fact, I had a group into my office today and they’ve been working on the Senate side as well. So, I’m still optimistic. I know it’s not going to be an easy thing to do, obviously. But I think that there is still an opportunity in this Congress to get this legislation passed.”

Newhouse says, we’re all seeing the high costs of foods in the grocery store …

NEWHOUSE … “As members of Congress have come out, a bill is in the Senate and understand and they hear that message from their constituents, this is part of the larger solution to gain control over the high costs that we’re all seeing. So, I’m optimistic and seeing some good signs moving forward.”

The measure passed in the House last year, but has yet to find enough support in the Senate.
