After recent pushback from the private sector, the SEC extended the comment period for a proposal requiring publicly traded companies to report contributions to climate change was delayed. The comment period now ends June 17.

Agricultural groups, including the Public Lands Council, NCBA, and American Farm Bureau Federation, were vocal about their concerns and the SEC to grant this week's extension. The proposal would require publicly traded companies to disclose actions contributing to climate change, including emissions generated at various points in the supply chain prior to the finished product. Under this impossibly broad rule, there’s a risk that large companies like McDonalds or Tyson will have to disclose emissions caused by the routine production of livestock.
