05/12/06 New Favorite Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know, my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. I simply do not waste my time drinking wine that I do not enjoy. Recently I had a very nice glass of wine at an Art Opening at the Hogue Cellars winery in Prosser Washington. It was a perfect wine for the upcoming season. The Hogue Cellars has made a lovely Rose' style of Sangiovese, and since Sangiovese expresses lovely fruit characteristics this wine smells so pretty I am tempted to dab it behind my ears. The 2005 Terroir Sangiovese Rosato is pleasantly floral and the taste is ever so slightly crisp and clean, with a well-balanced fruitiness, that keeps it from being very sweet. I think of it as refreshing. It is a great little cocktail wine and definitely a wine to serve with grilled vegetables or prawns. It would be a perfect accompaniment to lunch on a hot summer day and worth carrying with you on a hike. And since Hogue has done their homework and recognizes that the screwcap is the best way to keep this wine fresh I think it inspires a picnic! Doing their homework again Hogue determined that the American Cancer Society is largest nongovernmental non-profit organization funding breast cancer research. And you guessed it They are donating a portion of the profits from this lovely Rose' to further breast cancer research. Visit their tasting room on Wine Country Road in Prosser Washington or go to their website at hoguecellars.com and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
