Florida’s orange production in 2020/2021 is similar to the production year of 2017/18 when Hurricane Irma blew through the state.

A forecast of 46 million boxes for 2021 is just one million more than 2017’s 45 million.

Here are some more of the numbers reflected from Florida orange production as part of USDA's latest look at all U.S. production. For non-Valencia production…

Hudson: “18 million boxes, that’s down 1 million boxes from our October initial forecast. And it is down 20% from last year’s 22.7 million boxes. For our Valencia oranges, it’s unchanged from October which is 28 million boxes which is no change but it’s down from the 30.1 million boxes or 7% from the previous year.”

Mark Hudson of the National Agricultural Statistics Service says the US total orange production is a reflection of production only from Florida.

Total production is down 1% from the previous forecast. Florida’s all orange forecast is down 2% at 46 million boxes.

The Executive Director of the Florida Department of Citrus released a statement saying the latest forecast underscores why support from leadership and policymakers is so important. This is an industry that continues to fight and remains a vital component of the state’s economy.”
