A very important member of our Sportsmans spotlight team, TOMMY ALLEN, emailed me a poster that looked for all the world like a wanted poster and that’s because it was a wanted poster. Let me read a little bit of it for you. Big headline Idaho wolf trappers wanted and there's a little picture of a wolf facing off against an elk. Apparently it is a cooperative effort between Idaho Fish and game and the foundation for wildlife management. Then it goes on to say trappers, Idaho needs your help! Get reimbursed up to $1000 per wolf and you keep the pelt. It says this effort is an attempt to assist Idaho fishing game in managing wolf populations in order to save elk moose and the rest of Idaho wild life and to protect live stock and the rest of Idaho’s ranching heritage. Bullet points: wolf predations on livestock are at record highs. Elk pressured out of the back country and down into ranch and farm ground where they are wreaking havoc on crops and fences. Finally, Wolf numbers are so high the number one killer of Idaho wolves is now other wolves. I called Fish and game official Roger Phillips
