I’m Bob Larson. If there is one topic that is top of mind among ag industry leaders these days it’s the supply chain challenges and getting their products to market.

U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says issues with the supply chain is not a new problem, but it’s a very complex matter that must be addressed …

NEWHOUSE … “The pandemic has obviously touched countries around the globe and so some of the slowdowns, we can’t lay everything at the feet of this administration or this government, but certainly our response to the things that we do have control over in this country, I think we could have been much better strategically in how we encouraged supply chains to be open as much as possible.”

And, Newhouse says the experts he’s talked to say this is not a problem that will go away any time soon …

NEWHOUSE … “There’s no short-term fix this year. This could go on for some time unfortunately. We saw a huge impact this last growing season with parts availability, supplies availability was challenging and unfortunately I don’t know that we’re going to see a lot of relief in the very near future.”

Newhouse says one of the big domestic challenges facing the supply chain is the shortage of truck drivers.

Tune in tomorrow for more on possible changes to address the impact on the supply chain.
