It’s time for your Farm of the Future Report. I’m Tim Hammerich.

Farmers have become very efficient with their fertilizer applications, but there’s room for even more improvement if we can keep the nutrients from leaching away from the plant. BPS agriculture’s Augere is a fertilizer enhancing adjuvant for improving the uptake of nutrients in crops like corn, wheat, soybeans, rice, and cotton, and significantly reducing nitrate leaching. Dave Coorts is the company’s vice president of technical development.

Coorts… “When it's introduced to the nutrient solution, it will begin because of its super molecular host chemistry capabilities, it will start to form super molecular structures with the nutrients that it finds within that nutrient solution. And then as those are delivered to the plant, we get increased concentration of nutrients because it literally pulls lots of molecules together.”

In other words, the nutrients stay available to the plant instead of being lost to the environment.

Coorts… “In our lab studies and in our greenhouse studies, we've effectively eliminated nitrate leaching.”

Coorts says they’re now rolling Augere out to about 70 field trials this year.

Coorts… “Greenhouse is one thing, but field is where the rubber hits the road. And so we're looking to see increased performance in the field, obviously measured by yield at the end of the day.”
