Huskie FX to Help Combat Resistance
One of the challenges with managing weeds or any pest is that over time it will adapt and even develop resistance to any product that has been effective for too long. In order to help farmers manage herbicide-resistant kochia and other weeds, Bayer Crop Science has developed Huskie FX. Here’s technical services representative Kevin Thorsness.
Thorsness… “We all know that kochia is one of those weeds that it's difficult to control in the first place. And it has an ability to develop resistance to a lot of products when they are used repeatedly on it. Now, we haven't seen any issues with Huskie per se, controlling kochia, but we want to be proactive and make sure we extend the lifecycle, so to speak, of Huskie by bringing in another mode of action to keep it effective against kochia and other weeds.”
The company is getting ready to bring the product to the market this spring, which contains three different active ingredients.
Thorsness… “Pyrasulfotole, Bromoxynil, and Fluroxypyr. And all three are effective against kochia. And so by doing that, you're attacking the weed from three different spots. And by doing that, you're able to better control it, for one. And two, hopefully prevent or at least delay for an extended period of time, the development of resistance.”
ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW PESTICIDE LABEL DIRECTIONS. Not all products are registered in all states and may be subject to use restrictions.
