Did you know that horn flies infest cattle on pasture with populations that can reach as high as 4,000 flies per animal in untreated herds. And losses from horn flies are estimated to cost the cattle industry $1 billion each year.

Brian Hupp is with Central Life Sciences and says Altosid IGR has truly represented the gold standard for horn fly control for nearly 50 years and they’re excited to make the best value in the industry even better.

"Altosid IGR continues to be the gold standard, but we have just tweaked the price on it a little bit to lower it to 2 to 3 cents per head per day," said Hupp. "We did this just to make it a little bit more economically feasible for people and put that kind of a little bit more on that same price playing as sprays or ear tags or pour ons or some of the topical products that the people use for horn fly control."

He says the earlier cattlemen get started with Altosid IGR the better.

"We always have what we call the 30-30 program which is let's get started early," said Hupp. "Basically, it's 30 days before the last frost in the spring, because once the temperatures start to get over 60 to 65 degrees during the day, we know the flies are going to emerge and start breeding and building that population."
