Horn flies cost cattle producers an estimated $1 billion each year due to the stress they inflict and disease they spread, inciting weight loss as high as 50 pounds per yearling.

Brian Hupp is with Central Life Sciences and says when pounds equal dollars Altosid IGR can help cattlemen control horn flies and increase their profitability.

"Altosid IGR is a feed thru fly control for horn fly control," said Hupp. "It's been the gold standard for horn fly control for nearly three decades now. Horn flies are the most costly external parasite to pasture cattle. So, we need to find a way to control them and that's what Altosid IGR does. It goes right to the source and stops those flies where they start the manure."

He says by not controlling horseflies, cattlemen are setting themselves up for failure.

"They're guaranteed to lose," said Hupp. "There hasn't been a time when flies have not come out in the spring. Every single year it's a guarantee we're going to have a horn fly season. And we know that those losses are going to happen if we don't do something about controlling them."
