With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. The next Washington Advancements in Viticulture and Enology, or WAVE seminars, is coming up next week, but this one is a WAVEx Webinar.
The Washington State Wine Commission’s Melissa Hansen says the hour-long webinar will focus on a pest discovered a couple of years ago, the white-headed grape leaffolder …
HANSEN … “They have seen a little bit of contamination in the fruit from the caterpillars at harvest, so there is potential for it to be a serious pest, but I think we’ll be able to have effective insecticides, you know, there’s plenty of treatments.”
This pest, Hansen says is one they want stay ahead of …
HANSEN … “Who knows where it came from, but, you know, it’s something you don’t just want to ignore. We don’t want this to turn into a major pest.”
And if you haven’t signed up yet, Hansen says it couldn’t be easier …
HANSEN … “The registration if free, but you do need to register ahead of time to be able to get the Zoom, virtual login. And, if you go to the Wine Commission’s website, which is www.washingtonwine.org and go to the research section, and look under the WAVE button, you’ll find all the information there.”
But, Hansen says don’t wait, it’s coming up soon …
HANSEN … “So, the webinar is on March 4th from 12:30 to 1:30.”
