With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. The next Washington Advancements in Viticulture and Enology seminar is coming up very soon and this year will be held virtually as the WAVEx Webinar.

The Washington State Wine Commission’s Research Program Director, Melissa Hansen says the WAVEx meetings are the condensed versions of the WAVE series …

HANSEN … “It will be a free, one hour, or close to one hour, webinar. And, it’s sponsored buy the Washington State Wine Commission and Washington State University, as our WAVE and WAVE-x events are.”

This WAVEx, Hansen says targets a new vineyard pest …

HANSEN … “The focus is the white-headed grape leaffolder. And, it’s a relatively new pest that’s been found in some limited Washington vineyards, wine grape vineyards, but because it’s new to Washington, you know, there’s a lot we don’t know about it.”

Hansen says they became aware of this leaffolder a few years ago …

HANSEN … “We initiated research a couple of years ago with Dr. David James, who’s an entomologist and kind of specializes in IPM type of research at WSU. And, he’s been trying to figure everything that we need to know about this pest.”

And over that time, Hansen says Dr. James has learned a few things …

HANSEN … “He had two full, almost two full years, of studying this pest so he’s going to start to share his results at the webinar.”
