I’m Bob Larson. In spite of a year filled with uncertainty, the Potato Leadership, Education, and Advancement Foundation reached it’s first-year fundraising goal of $2-million and look forward to building on that this year.

National Potato Council’s Mike Wenkel says the industry has really stepped up …

WENKEL … “You know, they really did. When we look at the outcome from a Founders Society standpoint, the Potatoes USA Challenge, that $500-thousand match was a big part of it that we easily reached by the first of June.”

Wenkel says that support came from many sectors …

WENKEL … “State organizations stepped up heavily along with several farm organizations as well as some industry people. And again, we kind of moved into not really pushing heavily by the middle of April and the industry was still there supporting it and really stepping up. So, kudos to all of those out there that recognized that and still stepped up to the plate to support us.”

And if YOU’D like to become a Founders Society member, Wenkel says you have until December 31st of this year to make a pledge, and …

WENKEL … “People will still have until December 31st of 2023 to fulfill those pledges.”

Potato LEAF was launched last January, designed to provide tools, training, and support necessary to develop growers and industry members as leaders.
