One big promotion that APG is doing includes a virtual pistachio harvest in California’s San Joaquin Valley and a schedule of live interactive cooking demonstrations with celebrity chefs catering to food writers and industry influencers in the US as well as in six other countries. It’s all about getting the influencers to write about and promote the use of pistachios in cooking and day to day snacking.

The first big cooking demonstration was held last week with more coming up this week, going the way through November 25th. The first cooking demonstration featured pistachio grower, Rich Kreps with Lark Farms in eastern Madera County. Kreps had just completed his first harvest of pistachios. In that first cooking demonstration Kreps was featured with Wolfgang Puck, the world-renowned chef who took some pistachios and made a wonderful dish.

“Well, I'm a big fan of the rack of lamb, and I like to take them and actually cut them individually and cook what we call lollipops from the lamb chops, but he roasted the entire rack and then made a pomegranate glaze, and then he made a pistachio sauce that had some chili and some scallions and cilantro in it then went over the top. It looked absolutely delicious,” explained Kreps

Wolfgang Puck also prepared a beautiful dessert with pistachios. “He made a pistachio brittle that was crumbled over a pistachio cream with a chocolate pistachio soufflé, that I am actually going to prepare myself on Saturday night to hopefully impress some farmer friends of mine,” Kreps said.
