With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. With Northwest Pear harvest now in the books, it’s the perfect time of year for the industry to share the beauty and deliciousness of their product with consumers.

Neil Ferguson, Creative Marketing Director at Pear Bureau Northwest, talks about a new series of short videos with growers telling their stories …

FERGUSON … “First of all, we always like to get our growers in front of a camera and talking to media, you know, we feel like who better to share the passion behind pears than Northwest pear growers.”

But, Ferguson says this year, 2020, offers some unique challenges …

FERGUSON … “Going into the season, obviously, we are not doing as much in-store sampling, or pretty much none at all, due to the pandemic. So, we’ve been trying to think of creative ways to communicate what the experience of eating, biting into a perfectly ripe pear is like and communicate that sort of digitally and visually to consumers.”

And, Ferguson says no face to face interactions …

FERGUSON … “So, we can’t hand them a slice of pear in a grocery store for the time being, so the next best thing for us is to communicate that feeling, that joy, that comes from biting into a ripe and juicy pear. So, that’s kind of the creative motivation behind this.”
