Twelve U.S. Senators sent a letter last week to Department of Agriculture undersecretary Greg Ibach urging approval of the National Bison Association’s request for a $17 million purchase of bison meat under the Section 32 surplus removal program. The effort was led by John Hoeven, a North Dakota Republican, and Michael Bennet, a Colorado Democrat.

Dave Carter executive director of the National Bison Association says the bison industry has been hit by Covid-19 and other factors.

Carter says he recently heard from the Agriculture Marketing Service, and as they enter the new fiscal year, evaluations will be done and the bison industry should know more within the next month.
