In one of the biggest political victories of his presidency, President Donald Trump earlier this year signed a phase-one deal with China that was expected to drive significantly higher agricultural exports to that country.

The president held a signing event with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He in which Trump highlighted reasons he pushed for a tougher policy stance with China.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue had encouraging words about the phase one trade deal with China. Phase one with China got off to a fairly slow start. It really was just signed in early February. And then the world got overwhelmed with the pandemic of covid. But I can tell you over the last six weeks, they really stepped up. He spoke to the National Association of State Directors of Agriculture. You've seen record corn shipments and even bean shipments here recently. I believe they have the capacity. China imports a lot of things. He says he expects Chinese demand for U.S. Ag products will be strong. as the Asian country rebuilds its swine herds. As you see the crop coming on. For the most part, we've got the tragedy in Iowa with the windstorm storm and we'll always have other issues in other parts of the country, Louisiana and hurricane. But for the most part, the crop that's coming on looks like we're going to need a strong export run.
