**Wildfires that burned swaths of Northern and Central California have scorched rangeland and damaged or threatened crops and livestock throughout the region.

Smoke and ash from the fires have also slowed harvests and led to concerns about possible impacts to crops.

County ag officials and local farm groups have distributed N95 respirators to farmers and farm employees, due to poor air quality caused by the fires.

**The Fertilizer Institute joined with the EPA and USDA in launching the Next Gen Fertilizer Challenges, which aims to accelerate the development of innovative fertilizer product technologies and increase the use of existing enhanced efficiency fertilizers that maintain or increase crop yields and reduce environmental impacts to air, land, and water.

TFI President Corey Rosenbusch tells agrimarketing.com, there is always improvement to be made, which is why we are excited to partner with the federal government and others in this challenge.

**As harvest season gets underway, Stemilt Growers is offering a new paper grab-and-go pack featuring the message that “All Farmers are Famous.”

The 100% recyclable pack has How2Recycle labeling and gives retailers an eco-friendly display of bulk apples and pears.

Stemilt’s Brianna Shales tells thepacker.com, it’s sustainable packaging that’s easy for retailers to merchandise and convenient for shoppers.

The launch will feature gala, fuji, granny smith and red delicious apples, and bartlett and starkrimson pears.
