No Grizzlies in North Cascades Pt 3
I’m Bob Larson. After years of back and forth, the Department of the Interior has decided that Grizzly Bears will not be reintroduced to the North Cascades. That decision was announced July 7th in Omak by Secretary David Bernhardt.U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says since last October’s public comment meeting, the Department of Interior has been weighing their options …
NEWHOUSE-8 = 18 … “Over the past few months, as you can imagine, Interior has been working very hard compiling those comments, analyzing them through the rule-making process, And, this week the Secretary, as I said, visited to tell us ‘in person’ that Grizzly Bears will not be introduced into the North Cascades.”
And the locals, Newhouse says seem to be very appreciative …
NEWHOUSE-9 = 15 … “And, I know that this is very welcome news by a strong majority of my constituents. Perhaps, I guess, I could describe one of the most important take-aways from the roundtable was the expression of gratitude by those people who were in attendance.”
It’s good news, Newhouse says moving forward …
NEWHOUSE-10 = 11 … “There was a lot of people talking about the fact that that decision gave them hope for the future that their voices are actually being heard by the federal government.”
Newhouse says he is enormously grateful to Secretary Bernhardt for not only listening to our concerns and opinions, but for delivering this news in person here in North Central Washington.
