The Almond Board Launches B + scholarship to Promote Bee Friendly Farming
“Protecting and improving honeybee health is important not only in the short time that bees are in the orchards, but year round---critical to the success of every almond grower,” said Lewis. “By working with national organizations, such as Pollinator Partnership, we're able to expand our focus to all pollinators, including working lands as part of biodiverse ecosystem.”
Lewis said responsible farming is at the heart of what the California almond community does.
“And the Almond Board’s B + scholarship is a way in which we align the California almond sustainability program and the Bee Friendly Farming Program of Pollinator Partnership. This allows us to increase our support to growers as they remain committed to growing almonds in a better, safer, and healthier way, adding biodiversity to the farms and improving the outcomes for pollinators,” said Lewis.
The B+ scholarship program will provide free cover crop seed to 100 almond growers through the Project Apis m. Seeds for Bees Program. The scholarship will also cover the cause for growers to register for the Bee Friendly Farming Program.
