Farmers Markets Evolve
As the saying goes. Times - they are a-changin'....
Some businesses are starting to re-open. Others will not, now. Those that are opening, are finding they are going to have to change with the times...roll with the punches - if you will.
That is also true when it comes to some make shift businesses like - farmers markets.
Colleen Donovan is the Executive Director of the Washington state Farmers Markets Association. She says they are a few notable changes shoppers will see this year.
“Typically, have had a perimeter around them so that there’s a single entrance and a single exit. In-part that’s because there’s a limited number of shoppers that are able to enter the marketspace at any one time in order to maintain social distancing. The vendors will be spaced at least six feet, probably closer to ten feet apart. There will only be farmer and food vendors allowed at this time. Everything will be very functional so that it can be washed frequently and sanitized. So, it’s going to be as efficient as possible.”
Donovan also noted there will not be any sampling, live music, chef demos or kids’ events at farmers markets this year.
She says, shoppers will still have an opportunity to find fresh, local food items. And thats the good news.
