Farm Workforce Modernization Act Updt Pt 2
With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act is just one important piece of legislation that could potentially be delayed by upcoming impeachment proceedings in the Senate.
But, U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse believes his ag labor bill will get done …
NEWHOUSE … “You’re absolutely right. It gets kind of complicated when we have things that could potentially take center stage and push important issues off the agenda, but that will only be temporary.”
The worse part, Newhouse says is the unknowns …
NEWHOUSE … “I’m not sure how long the impeachment process will take, but we will get to these important issues at some point and I don’t think we’re going to lose that momentum that we have because there is a very critical situation as it relates to labor in agriculture in this country and, like I said, many of the Senators understand that and want to do something about it. So, I feel good about that.”
As for House Speake Nancy Pelosi’s delay in moving the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate, Newhouse says …
NEWHOUSE … “She’s going to have to let them go at some point and accept whatever rules that the Senate adopts as to how they move forward. And, what she has gained at doing this, I really can’t tell that she’s gained anything.”
Once the Senate receives the Articles of Impeachment from Pelosi, everything else they’re doing gets set aside until proceedings conclude, but it’s still unclear just how long that might take.
