01/18/06 Purchasing wine glasses

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. On today's program we will give advice for anyone contemplating the purchase of wine glasses. The selection of wine glasses available on the market is staggering. When making that purchase it is best if you determine beforehand what your criteria is for the wine glass to best suits your needs. First of all, are you searching for an everyday glassware or special occasion glassware? Do you mind hand washing the glasses or must they be able to withstand the dishwasher? Those two questions are a great place to begin. If affordability is a primary consideration then don't bother purchasing both red and white wine glasses. Simply purchase one basic style, there are many basic tasting glasses available that are acceptable for both red and white wine. Decide if you want a smooth clear glass or if cut glass or say a colored stem is something that you are looking for. In fact you may opt out of a wine with a stem at all and go for a wine tumbler such as those commonly used in Italy or from the new Riedel O series of wine glasses without a stem. There are so many fun styles and elegant to playful designs in wine glassware that we really can and should have fun with wine glasses. Glasses are a necessity to drinking wine and there is certainly a glass for every occasion. Be yourself and purchase glasses that reflect who you are. And just a hint purchase a couple extras and stash them away because no matter how careful you are they do break. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at Vine to Wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
