01/13/06 New favorite - 1999 Matthews Cellars Red

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and, as many of you know, my new favorite wine is the wine that is in my glass at the time. I simply do not drink wine that I do not enjoy. Today I want to share a recommendation for a small Washington Winery that in my opinion is making some stellar wines. Recently during an unusually quiet weekend at our house I decided to reach into that portion of the Cellar that holds the wines that I am aging. I brought out a bottle of Matthews Cellars 1999 Yakima Valley Red Wine. Winemaker Matt Loso has always paid attention to the details especially where he sources his fruit. He selected some of the best fruit from some of the finest vineyards in the Yakima Valley of Washington, and yes, 1999 was a pretty darn good vintage for red wines in the state of Washington. Matt created a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot and Cabernet Franc that is rich, extremely complex and leaves you wanting for nothing but more! Although this particular wine is no longer available, it reminded of what a great job this winery is doing. Production is small and these small lots of wine sell out each release. The red, the whites, and the occasional Rose wines are all worth investing in. If you are interested in finding out more visit their website at matthews cellars dot com and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
