Today consumers want to have a relationship with the hardworking men and women who raise their food and fiber. And for farmers and ranchers, that means making some changes to the everyday operations versus how dad or even grandad did it.

In today's beef cattle industry, a lot of emphasis is on proper cattle handling and management.

Wyatt Small is the General Manager at Agri Beef's Snake River Cattle Feeding Operation in American Falls, Idaho.

"It all starts at day one even on the rancher's end" said Small. "The producer can do a lot to help their cattle so when they come into the feedyard it will help reduce stress and also help us as we ride the pen every day and monitor the health of all these cattle coming in."

He says it also helps promote an overall positive story of U.S. agriculture.

Small said "Anything you can do to help promote to the consumer that we do everything that's in our power here to humanly handle cattle is important."
