12/20/05 Wine as gifts

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. On today's program, we are going to continue answering holiday questions from the email. The second most popular question asked, is what about wine as a gift? Well as you can imagine, I love wine as a gift! I especially love it if the person puts a little extra thought into the gift. For example; find out something interesting about the wine, write it down, and attach it to the bottle. Cruise the internet and find a recipe that the winery or some "foodie" is recommending to go with that wine or that kind of wine. Add a gift certificate - offering to bring appetizers and share the wine when your friend opens it up. Use it is a great excuse to get together again. If the beneficiary is a fan of Port wines this is a wonderful time of the year to give them one. If you know a favorite wine producer of the recipient then try to find an older vintage from that winery to surprise them with. Don't be limited to one bottle. If you can afford it make a theme out of your gift. For example buy three wines all of them made from the same type of grape in the same vintage but from three different places like Syrah from Australia, California and Washington state. There are so many ways to please a wine lover that I can assure you you are only limited by your imagination! Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
