Welcome to Vine to Wine, this is your host Linda Moran, and on today's program I want to recommend a book that would make a wonderful gift for the food & wine lover on your list.
I am always searching for books that will give me a new take on food & wine pairing and recently during a cruise through several of my wine magazines I found recommendation after recommendation for a book by Malcolm Gluck and Mark Hix., titled "The Simple Art of Marrying Food and Wine". The two approach the topic not only with well thought out and reasonable concepts but with humor and clever antidotes. The very first chapter about vegetables addresses the basic premise that although the dishes main ingredient may be cauliflower or carrots or squash that may not be the ingredient the dish is "built" around. In other words, it is not the predominant flavor or texture or whatever. The book includes recipes that seem original and with just a different enough take on something ordinary, to make it special. The book covers everything from vegetables to fish, meat, poultry and game and of course dessert. The photography is nicely done, although I would like to have seen more of the dishes completed, rather than just the raw ingredients laid out. So there you have it "The Simple Art of Marrying Food and Wine" a potential gift for the food and wine lover on your list.
