Wine Fundraiser Feeds Hungry Pt 1
With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. A fundraiser coordinated by the Walla Walla Wine Alliance raises money to help feed those in need of a helping hand this holiday season. The Wine Alliance's Ashley Riggs says it's great to see the support they get year after year ...ASHLEY RIGGS ... "Barrel Full of Money is actually a 2-month long fundraising campaign. And, it's a collaborative effort by many local business partners here in the valley including the Wine Alliance and our members as well as a few businesses outside the Walla Walla Valley including Alaska Airlines, Sequin Moreau Cooperage, and a few others."
Riggs says it's a worthy cause for a worthy organization ...
ASHLEY RIGGS ... "But, what Barrel Full of Money is, it's a fundraiser to raise money for the local food bank here that's organized by Blue Mountain Action Council. And so, we were able to raise $34,500.14 this year and we are so happy to announce that was a 28% increase from last year."
Riggs says even that extra 14-cents can stretch out the number of meals served ...
ASHLEY RIGGS ... "It did! And you know, because Blue Mountain Action Council's able to turn one dollar into six-dollars-worth of food assistance and are able to provide meals for about 18-cents per meal. And so, even that 14 cents there, you know, every single penny counts."
Riggs says the entire town of Walla Walla and wine community came together in a meaningful way.
