11/10/05 Food and wines - Magazine recipes

Welcome to Vine to Wine, this is your host Linda Moran and today is food and wine pairing day and if you are anything like me you enjoy the magazines that give us tons of ideas and great recipes for the holidays. Today we are embarking upon an eight week journey through some of my favorite publications and the recipes that most intrigue me during this holiday season and of course the wines that go with them. Let's begin this week's journey into entertaining for the holidays with a quick look at one of America's most popular food & wine magazines - Food & Wine. In the current November issue there is the expected article about updating the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Most of the time I just glance through these articles and move on but this one it is worth reading the recipes & check out the crunchy winter vegetable salad with olives and capers or the tri-colored roasted carrots and parsnips. I am all for making things a bit racey and these two recipes fill the bill in the vegetable department. Ray Ilse then puts in his two cents about the wines that we should be drinking at Thanksgiving and I love it! His selections are some of the same ones I have been making for years, such as Handley or Chateau St Jean Gewurztraminer from California. And he goes on to agree with me that a big fleshy rich Zinfandel is not out of the question. I would also add that many Washington state Syrah's will also satisfy your Thanksgiving day thirst. Now don't forget I want to hear from you tell me about your new favorite wine or your best or worse wine experience. Write to me at Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
