Rural Vs Urban Washington Pt 1
I'm Bob Larson. "Why rural Washington is fed-up with Olympia and Seattle."That is the title of a blog on the Washington Policy Center website written by Ag Research Director Madi Clark who says a term used last week by a Trump Administration insider during their Solutions Summit answered the question perfectly ...
MADI CLARK-1A = 19 ... "When I was listening to Myron Ebell, who helped the Trump Administration with the EPA, the term he used of Urban Enviro-Imperialism, I really liked it. I'd never heard it before, but the concept that the urban population think they know best, that whatever they proscribe is the miracle cure for rural areas is really frustrating."
Clark says if you grew up in rural Washington, you know exactly what it means ...
MADI CLARK-1B = 21 ... "Growing up in smaller towns across the U.S., you experience that on a day-to-day basis. You watch the job losses in your community. You experience the high cost of living because of urban policies, but you don't experience a higher salary. So, it's one of those things that's really frustrating and it needs to change to make it, the rural areas and the urbans areas, begin to get along."
Clark says one of the biggest challenges is the strong main-stream media message that brands farming as factory or industrial farms, two terms she could do without.
Listen tomorrow for more on the detachment between rural and urban Washington.
