Teresa Waterman of the Idaho Wheat Commission talked to me about the 2016 wheat crop. "Idaho wheat farmers did experience one of the highest yields back to 1980. Our production this last year was about 102,000,000 bushels and so yields were up to almost 91.3 bushels per acre which is a 15% increase over previous years so, yes, it was a bumper crop and prices are low which is unfortunate for such an incredible crop but farmers are paid per bushel so they did bring in more bushels so they will be paid more because they produced more but yes it is a problem with the low wheat prices right now and we are not seeing into the distant future that those prices are going to come up. But maybe next year they will bump up a little bit so we are just trying to stay positive that we are going to see a change in prices.
