Regional Weekly Hay Report
Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.Sanders: “We had 5,450 tons of hay trade. Compared to last Friday all grades of export alfalfa steady in a light test. Trade was slow with light demand as exports await the news of the ocean shippers. Retail/feed store hay steady in a light test. Alfalfa mid-square bale premium quality for export sold for $140 per ton. Alfalfa small squares rated premium quality for retail/stable market sold for $235 per ton. Timothy grass mid-squares bales premium quality from $180 to $210 per ton also for the export market.”
In Idaho compared the previous week all grades of alfalfa were weak in a light test. Trade was very slow with light demand as large supplies are a hindrance to the market. Mid squares of alfalfa rated supreme sold for $120 per ton and those rated fair to good sold for $80 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week. Most demand lays with the retail/stable hay. In Central Oregon, small square bales of orchard grass rated premium sold between $230 to $250 per ton. In Lake County large squares or alfalfa rated premium sold for $170 per ton for export. In Klamath Basin large squares of alfalfa rated premium sold for $170 per ton. In Eastern Oregon orchard grass small squares rated supreme sold for $140 per ton. In Harney County large squares of alfalfa rated premium for export sold for $165 per ton.
