Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “Compared to last Friday all grades of domestic and export alfalfa were steady, export Timothy was steady to weak.Trade was moderate to active this week with moderate to good demand. Mid-square bales of alfalfa supreme dairy hay sold for $155 to $160 per ton. Premium export hay mid-square bales sold from $150 to $155 per ton. Alfalfa small square bales premium for the retail/stable market $200 per ton and the good quality for export market sold for $150 per ton. Timothy mid-square bales on the good quality sold for $120 for export.”
In Idaho compared the previous week all grades of alfalfa were steady. Trade was moderate to active with moderate demand. Dairies are looking for high testing organic hay. Mid-square bales of organic alfalfa rated supreme sold for $240 per ton. Mid-squares of premium alfalfa for export $130 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week. In Central Oregon, large square bales of alfalfa rated premium sold for $135 per ton. In Lake County large squares or alfalfa rated supreme sold for $175 per ton. In Klamath Basin small squares of Timothy grass rated premium for the retail/stable market sold for $315 per ton. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa/Timothy mix large squares rated premium sold for $205 per ton. Harney County had no new sales confirmed.
