Hello, I'm Susan Allen. I was able to catch up with U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse from our state's 4th District, who is also the former Director of the state's Agriculture Department and have him tell me about his opportunity to ask Donald Trump a question about a trade.

NEWHOUSE: " Last week I had the opportunity to ask the presumptive Republican nominee for President, Donald Trump, a question when he met with House Republicans. I told him that there were many people in my state that were very concerned about some of his comments as it related to trade and was there anything he could tell me that would help them to have confidence in him as being president? I did also explain to him that fully 40% of the jobs in the state of Washington are in some way related to international trade, so it's a very important issue to producers, to farmers, to manufacturers.... a lot of people in Washington State."

And your takeaway

NEWHOUSE: "Mr. Trump told me he would be very focused on trade, he wants to increase opportunities for trade, in fact, what he wants to see is a fairer trade. So I think he emphasized some of the stronger points that he has been saying all along; that trade is important, and he wants a fair deal for the people that produce in our country, and so I think that that gives people more confidence in some of the policies he will be focusing on as it relates to international trade."

Representative Newhouse thank you for your time and your bold question.
