Farmers Vote on Right To Farm
Now through the end of this week is the "absolute peak" for rainier cherries according to Steve Lutz Vice President of Marketing for CMI. CMI is one of the largest Rainier cherry producers in Washington State and he says 85% of their crop will be harvested by June 26th. Oklahoma farmers and ranchers will have their right to farm on the ballot this November. State Question 777 would add a new section to the Oklahoma Constitution that would guarantee the right to engage in specific farming and ranching practices by creating state constitutional rights protecting, the right to make use of agricultural technology, the right to make use of livestock procedures, and the right to make use of ranching practices. The Humane Society of the United States is out in force opposing the measure that will be decided by voters. And Monday Elanco Animal Health, and EnBiotix, announced a collaboration to explore the application of EnBiotix's engineered phage technology in imal health targets. If successful, this endeavor could result in potential alternatives for traditional antibiotics in animals.
