Winner of the Leopold Conservation Award Named

Each year the Leopold Conservation Award is given to a worthy landowner who demonstrates extraordinary achievement in voluntary conservation. Colorado Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust Executive Director Erik Glenn provides more details about this year's winner.

Glenn: "The 2016 recipient is The Stacked Lazy 3 Ranch. They are located in the Deer Trail Agate area of Eastern Colorado. Its a 15,000 acre integrated farm-ranching operation. They practice no-till farming in their farming operation. They have done 50,000 feet of terraces. Replanted 100s of acres of what was farm land, back to grass. On their ranching side, they have installed more than a mile and half of pipeline to better facilitate the movement of cattle. They practice switch-back rotational grazing. They graze the cattle on the ranch from June through October. It's just a phenomenal operation that you see really brings home the majesty of the Plains in both what can be done in terms of farming and ranching to really showcase agriculture in the West."
