Positions Wanted & Expanding Education. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Applications are now being accepted for positions that need to be filled by public members among Oregon's commodity commissions. One requirement– public members cannot be directly associated with the production or handling of that specific commodity. Kris Anderson manages the Oregon Department of Agriculture's Commodity Commissions Program. She says public members both give to and receive from the experience.

ANDERSON: They get a lot of exposure to the different research projects that the commission is entertaining. They also get exposure to different marketing ideas. And they can contribute what they know from their private sector jobs. So we have public members who are agronomists or field reps. We have bankers, financiers, chefs, public relations people, writers.

If you are looking for an ag education but thinking a small community college might be more to your liking then you should check into the Tillamook Bay Community College. TBCC has officially launched its Agriculture and Natural Resources degree program. The Associate of Applied Science Degree prepares students for entry into a variety of career opportunities in agriculture, natural resources, forestry, fish and wildlife, animal science and other related fields. Students in the Agriculture and Natural Resources degree program at TBCC can choose to jointly enroll at Oregon State University, thanks to the Degree Partnership Program.
